Colombo bourse closed higher.
Market started positively but fluctuated and closed on a mixed note later in the day. Healthy gain in Aitken Spence Plc (SPEN) helped ASI to close 26.45 points higher at 5884.00 while Milanka lost 1.74 points to end the day at 6034.28.
Today’s market turnover was boosted by SPEN by trading more than one million shares. SPEN closed at Rs 2745.30, up 249.50. SPEN has contributed Rs 2.80 billion for today’s total turnover of Rs 5.89 billion. John Keells Hotels Plc (KHL) was the 2nd largest contributor with Rs 838.74 million. More than 39 million shares of KHL traded during the day and closed 30 cents higher at Rs 21.70 while Distilleries Company of Sri Lanka contributed 362 million rupees towards total equity turnover and closed one rupee higher at Rs 153.00.
The Bukit Darah Plc was the biggest loser with loss of Rs 499.90 to close at Rs 7400.10. Hotel Sigiriya lost 4.10 to close at Rs 90.00. I have been collecting Hotel Sigiriya from Rs 60 levels and still think it is worth to buy. KHL is also attractive stock in hotel sector but looks like heavily over valued on current earnings.
According to a letter sent to CSE, Lanka Walltile Plc has decided to close their Balangoda factory. Today foreigners were net sellers with huge margin. They sold stocks valued Rs 2.77 billion and purchased Rs 189 million worth of stocks.
