Market opened trading for a fresh week on a positive note but ASI closed marginally higher at 6894.26, up 1.70 points while MPI closed opposite direction at 6429.91, down 9.39 points. However at the end of trading there were 128 negative contributors and only 69 gainers reported. Today’s total market turnover amounted to 1.94 billion rupees.
Index heavy Sri Lanka Telecom was up by 2.20 to close at Rs 58.50 while GREG closed at Rs 74.00, up 11.90. More than 2.3 million shares of GREG changed hands. Abans Financial Services Ltd (AFSL) a Finance company listed by the way of introduction commenced trading today. AFSL closed at Rs 79.80.
Sampath Bank lost 7.20 to close at Rs 239.10 while Aitken Spence Plc (SPEN) closed at Rs 135.10, down 2.20. 2,237,100 shares of SPEN traded during the day. Heavy trading (18,978,000 shares) witnessed in Amana Takaful and closed 10 cents higher at Rs 2.50.
Softlogic Finance has announced a right issue of 2 for 5 at Rs 50.00 per share to fulfill its capital adequacy requirements which have arisen as a result of the business expansion .
Net foreign outflow of Rs 150,468,458.00 reported for the day.

Despite green close on Friday bearish trend prevailed throughout the day. 126 stocks lost their value and only 78 were reported gains. 
Tightened liquidity due to floods of IPOs and margin calls fueled the sharp decline during the early part of the week. At the end of Friday’s trading Colombo ASI was up by 20.88. points to close at 6892.56 while MPI gained 2.04 points to close at 6439.30. Total market turnover amounted to 1.89 billion rupees for the day.
Carsons Cumberbatch Plc was up by 24.60 to close at Rs 594.70 while Sri Lanka’s only wire line telecom operator Sri Lanka telecom closed at Rs 56.30, up 2.40. Expolanka was up by 20 cents to end the day at thirteen rupees. Serandib Land Plc was the biggest gainer today and closed at Rs 2999.00, up 499.00.
15,472,900 shares of Panasian Power changed hands today and closed 10 cents lower at Rs 5.10 while 11,296,400 shares of Blue Diamond Jewelery World Wide Plc traded and closed 40 cents lower at Rs 8.90. Over 19 million shares of Amana Takaful changed hands and closed at Rs 2.40, up 10 cents. Hotel Sigirya lost sharply to close at Rs 61.30, down 8.70.
Central Investment and Finance Ltd (CIFL) has announced a public issue (IPO) of 40 million shares at Rs 10.00 per share. CFIL IPO subscription list will be opened on 21st July 2011 and application forms / prospectus can be obtained from CSE members from 6th July 2011.

The Colombo benchmark All Share Index (ASI) closed slightly below psychologically important 7000 index level. ASI was down by 44.04 points to close at 6996.64 while MPI lost 31.86 to close at 6571.34. Day’s turnover amounted to 1.67 billion rupees.

There were 70 gainers and 127 losers for the day. Ceylon Guardian Investments Trust Plc was up by 26.60 to close at Rs 339.80 while BUKI closed at Rs 1071.70, up 10.60. HDFC was up by Rs 44.60 to close at 1545.00. Index heavy weighted Sri Lanka Telcom lost 1.20 to close at Rs 53.50. Kalamazoo Systems Plc was down by 609.70 to close at Rs 2500.00 but only 100 shares traded for the day.

Investors are facing liquidity problems due to recent huge right issues and floods of IPOs in addition to broker credit restrictions.

Vallibel One IPO

P W Corporate Secretarial (Pvt.) Ltd, Registrars to the above Offer, has informed the CSE that the Vallibel One IPO has been oversubscribed. P W Corporate Secretarial (Pvt.) Ltd has also informed the CSE that the issue would be closed at 4.30 p.m. today (21st June 2011).

After sharp decline in early days of the week market rebounded on Friday. During Thursday’s trading ASI slipped below 7000 points. At the end of Friday’s trading ASI was up by 34.32 to close at 7050.03 while MPI closed 31.47 points higher at 6600.87. Total market turnover amounted to 2.54 billion rupees.
There were 117 gainers and 75 negative contributors for the day. Index heavy BUKI was up by 23.10 to close at Rs 1073.10 while Browns and Company Plc closed at Rs 338.20, up 23.30. Expolanka closed 20 cents higher at Rs 12.70. 31,438,400 shares of Blue Diamonds Jewellery Worldwide changed hands and closed 1.10 higher at Rs 9.70.
Cargills (Ceylon) Plc was down by 4.90 to close at Rs 205.10 while Ceylon Tobacco Company Plc closed five rupees lower at Rs 365.00. Illiquid Kalamazoo Systems Plc lost 2045.00 to close at Rs 5945.00.
Valllibel One Ltd has announced the acquisition of Delmage Forsyth Ltd and its Group of companies for Rs 3.1 billion. Vallibel One IPO is scheduled to open its subscription list on next Tuesday. They further said proceeds of the initial public offering will not be used for this acquisition.

Panasian Power continued to trade heavily and over 37 million shares traded but closed only 10 cents higher at Rs 6.90.

Foreign investors were net buyers with net inflow of Rs 46,084,822.00.

After continuous decline from beginning of the week CSE indices closed on a positive note today. ASI was up by 21.92 points to close at 7279.62 while MPI closed 21.26 points higher at 6800.32. Day’s total turnover amounted to 4.06 billion rupees.

Sri Lanka’s one of the oldest listed finance company, Central Finance Company Plc was up by 162.30 to close at Rs 1559.90 while Asian Hotels and Properties Plc a subsidiary of John Keells Holdings was up by 10.50 to close at Rs 193.50. Distilleries Company of Sri Lanka (DIST) closed 5.30 higher at Rs 185.10. DIST has made a profit of 8.30 billion rupees (including the profit from disposal of long term investments) for the year ended 31st March 2011.

Despite index gains there were 118 negative contributors and only 78 positive contributors for the day. Illiquid EB Creasy and Company Plc lost 345.00 to close at 2145.00.

211,808,800 shares of Panasian Power changed hands and closed 20 cents lower at Rs 7.50 while 5,953,300 shares of Vallibel Power traded during the day and closed unchanged at Rs 10.60.

Softlogic IPO was oversubscribed on the opening day and issue was closed at 4.30 PM as per prospectus. Vallibel One IPO will open it subscription list on 21st June 2011. Expolanka shares will start trading on 13th Monday. The assigned security code for Expolanka is EXPO.N.0000.

Pan Asian Power (PAP) traded heavily during the day. 367,677,900 shares of PAP changed hands and closed 3.70 higher at Rs 8.30. According to the LBO, Emagewize (Pvt) Ltd, has bought 77 million shares in PAP for 6.00 rupees a share. However price band has been imposed on PAP.N.0000 with effect from 07th June 2011 to 13th June 2011 (both days inclusive).

21,502,500 shares of Free Lanka Capital Holdings (FLCH) traded during the day but closed unchanged at Rs 4.90. Central Finance Company Plc lost 44 rupees to close at Rs 1485.10 while Softlogic Finance closed 1.90 lower at Rs 69.70. There were total of 131 negative contributors and only 71 gainers for the day. Foreigners were net buyers with net inflow of Rs 76,856,113.00.

Benchmark Colombo All Share Index was up by 30.12 points or 0.41 percent to close at 7406.02 while more liquid Milanka Index closed at 6857.40 up 7.43 points. Day’s total equity turnover amounted to 4.14 billion rupees boosted by heavy trading in Colombo Land(CLND).  30,250,500 Colombo Land shares traded and closed 4.70 higher at Rs 50.00. CLND contributed Rs 1,586,951,808.00 for the day’s total turnover.

Ceylinco Insurance was up by 189.50 to close at Rs 933.30 while BUKI closed at Rs 1065.00, up 22 rupees. Carsons Cumberbatch Plc gained 11.20 to close at Rs 638.30. Another index heavy blue chip Aitken Spence closed four rupees higher at Rs 149.00.

Despite gains in indices there were 110 negative contributors and only 92 gainers reported for the day. Lanka Orix Leasing Plc lost 1.60 to close at Rs 113.20 while Cargills Ceylon Plc lost 2.50 to close at Rs 218.00. Softlogic Finance lost 20 cents to end the day at Rs 71.60.

According to the circular issued by CSE, Vallibel One, an investment holding company run by young entrepreneur Mr Dhammika Perera will offer 21,311,870 shares at Rs 25.00 per share to the public.  Vallibel One IPO will open its subscription list on 21st June 2011 and applications forms will available from 9th June.

Heavy trading reported in selected stocks. 16,461,100 shares of Janashakthi Insuarance Plc changed hands and closed 1.60 higher at 21 rupees. 10,023,900 shares of Nation Lanka Finance traded and closed 1.70 lower at Rs 30.30. More than 7.8 million shares of Colombo Land (CLND) traded during the day and closed at Rs 37.90, up 3.20. Softlogic Finance closed at Rs 71.90, up 70 cents.

Commercial Credit Ltd (COCR) a finance company listed by the way of introduction commenced trading today. 3,012,100 shares of COCR changed hands and within price range of Rs 25.00 to 45.00 but ended the day at Rs 33.00.

Few Hotel Stocks made significant gains during the day. Confifi Hotels Holdings Plc was up by 13.90 to close at Rs 228.90 while Kandy Hotels Company closed at Rs 273.70, up 17.70. Miramar Beach Hotels Plc was up by 17.10 to close at Rs 401.10. Hotel Sigiriya was up by 3.40 to close at Rs 82.50.

At the end of the day’s trading there were 111 negative contributors and 81 gainers.

Market opened positively for a fresh week today but lost the momentum few hours later. At the end of the day’s trading there were 143 losers and only 65 gainers reported. ASI was up by 8.83 to close at 7468.41 while MPI lost 9.25 to close at 6866.29. Day’s turnover amounted to 3.12 billion rupees.
The main reason for ASI to close positive was Rs 303.10 gain in Capital Development and Investment Company Plc (CDIC). Investors are speculating more than 2 billion rupee capital gain if AVIVA decides to exit from Aviva NDB Insurance PLC. Currently CDIC’s largest investment is in Aviva NDB Finance Lanka (Pvt) Ltd, through which the Company holds a 36.27% stake in Aviva NDB Insurance PLC. CDIC closed at Rs 707.30 for the day.
Lanka Ashok Leyland Plc closed at Rs 5990.00, up 490.00. Mercantile Shipping Company the only listed shipping company in Sri Lanka closed 155.20 higher at Rs 465.70. Sri Lanka Telecom Plc lost 1.70 to close at Rs 56.60 while Aitken Spense Plc was down by 2.40 to end the day at Rs 151.60. 1,256,900 shares of Union Bank changed hands and closed 30 cents lower at Rs 29.10.
Foreign investors were net sellers with net outflow of Rs 165,306,736.00.
